Majuro Hospital's doctors and nurses increasingly use US-standard medical software as digital health infrastructure improves under Compact-funded health programmes. Government planners and lawyers in Majuro, working with US-standard legal and administrative systems, face more immediate AI tool integration.

The safest jobs in Marshall Islands
Elementary occupations score 2.0/10 on AI exposure in the RMI, covering 1,340 workers (10.9%). These are general labourers on construction projects, dock workers at Majuro's port handling the interisland shipping that supplies outer atolls, cleaners and maintenance staff in government buildings, and general helpers in the hospitality sector. Physical, location-specific work with minimal digital interface.
Craft and trades workers score 2.5/10 covering 1,730 workers (14.0%). Carpenters repairing the sea walls and building structures on low-lying atolls, electricians, plumbers, and boat mechanics servicing the fibreglass skiffs and larger vessels that are the primary inter-atoll transport - this work requires physical presence and hands-on judgement that current AI systems cannot replicate. Agricultural workers at 1,450 (11.7%) score 3.0/10 - copra processing, breadfruit cultivation, and fishing work that is fundamentally unchanged by AI technology at the RMI's connectivity level.

The deeper concern for the RMI is not AI displacing existing jobs - it is the structural question of what comes after the next Compact renegotiation. US Compact funding is not permanent, and the RMI's Trust Fund (established under the Compact to provide income after direct grants end) has a target balance that may or may not be sufficient. AI-driven efficiency gains in government administration could either reduce the cost of delivering services or reduce employment. For a country where formal employment is concentrated in government, both outcomes have significant social consequences.
